German investors interested in developing marine tourism
in East Kalimantan
JAKARTA (indo.com): Several German businessmen have
reportedly shown their interest in developing marine tourism
in East Kalimantan, an area rich in tourism potential, particularly
in East Kutai and Berau.
The investors will soon send a team to conduct research
on marine tourism in the area, especially in the northern
part of East Kalimantan, Sangkulirang Regency (East Kutai)
and Derawan Island in Berau, said Ibnu Niwani, chairman
of East Kalimantan's Provincial Investment Coordinating
Board (BKPMD), in Samarinda recently.
The German investors intend to build a kind of resort with
amenities needed by travellers who enjoy marine tourism
around Sangkulirang and Berau.
"The facilities to be built include representative hotels,
supporting facilities and a tourism beach resort," he remarked.
The major problems facing the German investors in this regard
was how to establish a cooperation with local businesspeople
considering that very few local businesspeople were interested
in the tourism business.
He said that to solve the problem, it would be advisable
to involve national business people and through them, local
business people would be asked to join hands.
