Top painter Nyoman Gunarso launches new book

DENPASAR (indo.com): I Nyoman Gunarsa, Balinese impressionist painter and museum curator, has launched a new book entitled Jatayu Sang Maestro, Nyoman Gunarsa, Water, Colour dan Sketsa in conjunction with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Museum I Nyoman Gunarsa in Banda Village - Klungkung Regency.

The book written in English, German and bahasa, portrays a collection of Gunarsa's latest works.

The programs include the presentation of awards to members of Bali's community involved in cultural development and a colossal multi-media cultural performance.

Students of the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) performed a colossal dance and music. They employed the use of laser effects and fireworks, enlivening the museum's 10 anniversary celebration.

The commemmoration also featured a solo painting exhibition by Nyoman Gunarso at the museum. The exhibition kicked off on January 16, 2004 and will run through January 30, 2004.

At least 101 works produced between 1996-2003 are on display. The works trace Gunarsa's struggle to return to his art and his inner-spiritual journey to achieve the Hindu state of moksa (a limitless freedom).
