"Serenity" in Seniwati Gallery

DENPASAR (indo.com): Australian artist Linda Buller is exhibiting her art works reflecting the theme of 'serenity' at the Seniwati Show Space in Ubud from the 2nd February until the 2nd April 2002.

Bali, with an abundance of artists, is a vortex of creative energy which encourages people to recognize a little of themselves and their talents. Ms. Buller found herself drawn to Bali over seventeen years ago to paint and discover the limits of her own spirituality.

She chose to explore the nuances of her own primary sources of inspiration in familiar but unknown surroundings. Linda is one of the few Australia female artists that has painted and exhibited consistently throughout her life. She has been painting since the age of 13, beginning study at the Anik Silvers studio at 14 years old. She continued her training at the Bendigo Institute of Technology studying fine arts for three years.

During the late seventies and eighties Linda was an active member of the Fitzroy (Melbourne) Art scene as both a performance poet and visual artist, participating in group exhibitions and solo exhibitions at Rhumbella's Gallery, Brunswick St, Fitzroy, Melbourne. The City of Preston commissioned Linda Buller to paint the controversial Peace Mural within the Preston Market Place in 1986.

Reluctant to come to Bali at first, Buller found herself joyfully trapped by the island's magic when she got here. Compelled to return, she sought to fulfill her dream for fourteen years, gathering even stronger inspiration from her native Australia, painted on a Balinese palimpsest of her first vision of the island, always beckoning, always in her mind.

She currently paints in the hills of Ubud, immersed in the magic and mysticism of her surroundings. The Balinese belief that the mind rises to truth through that which is material, the basis for most of their life and art, is mesmerizing to Linda Buller, who is able to explore some of the mysterious depths of her own soul through the spirituality of Bali. Much of her work expresses an intense delight in all that makes us human: laughter, magic, celebration, and relationships with all God's creatures and the planet.

Her first showing at Seniwati Gallery (Ubud), presents the artist's complete repertoire of talent to the public for the first time, and allows us to delve into her psyche and psychedelic impressions of Bali.
