Local, foreign surfers surf in Paradise

DENPASAR (indo.com): Local and foreign surfers will demonstrate their skills when they join the Volcom Flying Fish Surf Series at Medewi Beach in the western part of Bali on November 18, 2001. The event is held to coincide with the "Clean Up" campaign of the West Bali coastline. Meanwhile, the Volcom Big Youth Happening Grand Final will be held on December 16, 2001 at Serangan beach, south of Denpasar.

Participants include local surfers and those from Australia, America, England and Germany. Only adult surfers (17 and over) will be allowed to join the competition.

Surfing has been the number one water sports attraction in Bali for many years, since the days of the hippy travelers of the sixties and seventies. Many people have been attracted to Bali because it offers numerous great surfing spots and is now one of the top surf level destinations in the world. Bali is ideal for both hard core professionals who are keen to ride monsterous waves and beach goers who are content just to float in the warm waters and try a bit of body surfing.

As surfing has evolved from an alternative lifestyle into the huge commercial enterprise, the Balinese surf scene has similarly evolved. It is now possible to arrive on the island and fully deck yourself out in quality surf gear from a range of well-known surf wear companies which are spread along Legian and Kuta.

So - why not give surfing a shot - and don't be surprised if you get hooked for life!
