Legian Street to be closed on October 12, 2003

DENPASAR (indo.com): Legian Street will be closed for the whole day on October 12, 2003 to facilitate security arrangement in conjunction with the commemoration of the first anniversary of the Bali bombing that killed 202 people.

Bali's Chief of Police, Inspector General Made Mangku Pastika, has declared that Legian area will be closed for cars due to intensified security activities there and only pedestrians will be allowed to take the street to ensure that the commemoration ceremonies in honour of the victims of the Bali bombing will run smoothly.

Thousands of mourners, survivors and their families are expected to march along the street in the evening of October 12. Led by Australian Prime Minister John Howard, the march will start at Kuta beach. They will walk along the streets of Bali before they finally stop at "Ground Zero", the site where the bomb detonation used to be located in front of the Sari Club.
