Bali will host the 13th Conference of the Parties
(COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 3rd Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Kyoto Protocol from 3 to 14 December 2007 at Nusa Dua.
At least 190 countries will participate in the Convention, with an estimated 10,000 people expected to attend the event. They are made up of 70 or more government heads and representatives from several international Non Government Organizations (NGOs), UN officials and local NGOs
To ensure the events run successfully and safely, Bali will tighten its security. The security level in the Island of Gods will be raised to Alert during the high profile Convention. At least 3000 police officer will be involved in ensuring security in the venue where the convention takes place and also several other important points in Bali such at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Gilimanuk Harbor and Benoa Harbor.
To prevent from any possible terrorist attacks, Bali Police will be supported by Indonesia Armed Forces keep guarding at every intersection and traffic light while others will keep patrolling around the town.
The Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change which will take place in Bogor Palace will endorse three important thing to the convention; Building Blocks for a Future Framework, Delivering of the Building Block and the Bali Road Map.
The meeting also agreed to widen the scheming post
2012 (Kyoto Protocol should end in 2012) and to give fair proportion for adaptation and mitigation and special issue like deforestation and forest degradation. And the Bali Road Map is aimed to create a formula for the post Kyoto Protocol in 2012.
