Tourist arrivals to Indonesia through 15 main gates across the country reached 1.7 million from January to May of this year or a 12 increase from last year’s figure on the same period, according to a data released by the Statistic Bureau Center.
The data shows that Bali ranks top in the number of tourist arrivals with 629,983 from January to May 2007 or a 34.39 percent increase compared to last year figure on the same period.
Tourist arrivals to Bali through the Ngurah Rai International Airport accounts for almost 50 percent of the total tourist arrivals to Indonesia, the data said.
In May, tourist arrivals through 15 main gates across Indonesia totaled 366,137 compared to 364,203 in April. Tourist arrivals to Bali reached 128,693 in May 2007 or a 26.45 percent increase compared to 101,776 in the same month last year.
The figure shows that signs of recovery started to be seen in Bali tourism industry since the Bali bombings occurred in 2002 and 2005.
Over 600,000 visitors influx Bali for the five months of 2007 compared to 400,000 in the same period last year. This means that over 100,000 visitors came to Bali each month. The increase in the number of tourist arrivals shows a good omen for the Bali tourism industry.
However, the 1.73 million tourist arrivals to Indonesia for the five months period might mean that only around 3.3 million tourists visit Indonesia for the whole year.
