Bali Governor Election on 9th July 2008

Bali will be held the biggest local politics event in July 9 this year to run for Bali Governor to replace the recent Governor Beratha that will be ended his term as Bali Governor in August. This Gubernatorial election will the first time for Bali people to elect their governor directly.

Bali Electoral Commission ruled out that all candidates should meet 26 requirements to be fit as Bali governor and able to conduct their campaign to win the July election. Bali Electoral Commission had involved the hospitals, police, and Courthouses to implement those requirements.

Some of the requirements that all candidates must be not a drug user nor involved in the drug dealings, age eligibility, have resigned from his/her positions as civil servant, army officer or police officer, never been served in imprisonment and not claimed as bankrupt by the court.

To secure Bali Gubernatorial Election, from 11 thousand officers in Bali, Bali Police will assigned 6 to 7 thousand police officers to the event, there's nothing special and just the routines, with more work for the officers to do the surveillance and tighten the security.

People in Bali will elect one of three gubernatorial hopefuls on July 9 2008 along their number for the campaign and election day:

  1. Professor Gede Winasa, the recent Jembrana Regent as the governor candidate paired up with Alit Putra, the former Badung Regent and also former Bali vice governor as the vice governor.
  2. Cok Budi Suryawan, the former Gianyar Regent as the governor candidate paired up with Police Brigadier General Nyoman Gde Suweta as vice governor
  3. Police Lieutenant General Made Mangku Pastika as the Governor candidate paired up with Denpasar Mayor AA Puspayoga as his vice governor.

t's expected the campaign process will be conducted in order, and all political parties and traditional leaders and the candidates to restraint their mass and supporters from mischief and disruption during the campaign and the election day to keep Bali image as the safe and secured tourism destination.
