The 6th Asia Regional Committee Annual Meeting and International Conference was held in Kuta for two days March 27 to 28 2008 and attended 100 participants of 21 countries including Indonesia, the conference was held by Indonesia Deposit Insurer Institution—Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan (LPS) Indonesia. The conference theme for this year is Deposit Insurance as Cornerstone for Financial Stability.
The chairman of LPS Indonesia, Mr Rudjito said that the aim of this conference is to share the important matters and energized the policies implemented by many of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) members.
Aside from 98 countries that already own the deposit insurance system, only 51 countries had joined to IADI and for Asia region established Asia Regional Committee (ARC) that part of the IADI.
The theme was selected is because the importance of the role and function of the deposit insurance institution in the stability of monetary system, especially to face the market challenges and fluctuation and global banking.
The conference is discussed several topics in two days conference; Deposit Insurance and Small Bank, Risk Assessment and Intervention, and Public Awareness. Keynote speakers for the conference were; Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) USA, Deposit Insurance of Japan (DICJ), The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC), Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC), and Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation India.
