'Back to nature' will be the 2001 trend in the tourism industry

JAKARTA (indo.com): Exploration of cultural diversity and nature, linked to the implementation of regional autonomy, will be the 2001 trend in the Indonesian Tourism industry.

"The development and growth of a national tourism industry, including Bali, will be influenced by two significant forces next year, namely the implementation of regional autonomy and the national policy on social and political issues," said I Gede Wiratha, chairman of the Bali chapter the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI).

The implementation of regional autonomy in 2001 will prompt each region to explore its tourism potentials, especially in terms of their cultural diversities and natural heritages around the archipelago.

The tight competition faced by each region to boost its regional revenues will drive each region to be more creative and innovative in exploring and developing local tourism potentials, especially cultural diversity and nature, he said.

The 'back to nature' trend will be especially visible in the eastern Indonesian provinces (KTI), where natural and cultural assets have not yet been utilized to the maximum for the development of the tourism industry.

The utilization of the diversity of culture and nature for the development of tourism industry will also be seen at a slower pace in the western part of the Indonesian provinces (KBI), he said.
