The Location

Located within the beautiful, secured 22-acre grounds of Bali’s most treasured Royal Water Palace at Tirtagangga and situated in the Karangasem Regency of East Bali which underfoot of the magnificent Mount Agung. Views of the surrounding countryside are blessed with some of the most amazing rice terraces with the warm crystal clear ocean in the distance.

Tucked away in the countryside and away from the busy tourist attractions in Kuta and perfect hideaway and seclude and private wedding scene. Just one and a half hours drive from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Kuta, But so close with many water sport activities offered near the hotel, like Amed with its famous diving site.

The History

This Palace was built by and for the last Rajah, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut as a splendid weekend retreat. Construction began in 1947 and every day the Rajah could be seen waist deep in mud, working alongside the local craftsmen creating this amazing miniature Asian Versailles. The eruption of Mount Agung, Bali’s most sacred mountain in 1963 almost entirely devastated the water gardens and the Rajah and his family took refuge in Ubud.

Island healers have praised the waters of the holy spring at Tirtagangga for their healing and youth giving powers. It is said that if one bathes in the waters of Tirtagangga on the full moon, one is blessed with lasting youth and all illnesses will be healed.

Villa Rajah was built for the Rajah so that he could rest there during the day, whilst he toiled with his craftsmen creating Tirtagangga water gardens and returning to Puri Palace in the evenings. Guest’s can enjoy being treated like Gods and Goddesses with first class royal treatment, be pampered and experience total relaxation.
