Gianyar is the rich artistic district
and has given Bali much of its character as a heart of
vision. The specialty of this area is woven kain endek
used in customary wear. Beside that, some of the most
important archeological sites also exist in Gianyar. The
majority is located in the Pejeng area, 4 km from Ubud,
known as a home to one of South East Asia's oldest artifacts,
a huge kettledrum known as the moon of Pejeng, a relic
from the Bronze Age.
The district of Gianyar is the center of Balinese culture,
rich in history and artifacts. Gianyar's history is arguably
the most fascinating in Bali. The town of Gianyar itself
is a small administrative town, home to one of the best
preserved palaces on the island, but unfortunately closed
to visitors.
The city of art, just a few kilometers from the outskirts
of Denpasar, the northern-most point high on the slopes
that lead to the caldera of Mount Batur.
This is one of cities that has a high revenue from tourism.
