MESSAGE
MINISTER OF EDUCATION AND CULTURE OF REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA
ON THE OPENING OF RUDANA MUSEUM, PELIATAN, UBUD
BALI - INDONESIA

Allow me, personally and as Minister of Education and culture, to first of all congratulate Mr. I Nyoman Rudana for his successful effort in establishing Museum Rudana which will be officiated on 26th. December 1995. A book under the title "Indonesia Emas: Seni Lukis Bali Dalam Perjalanan Seni Lukis Indonesia" (Golden Indonesia: Balinese Painting within the Course of Indonesian Fine Art) accompanies and becomes part of the 50th. Anniversary of the Celebration of Indonesia's Independence.

The establishment of Museum Rudana should be seen positively since it is an honorable deed. Its presence must also be considered as complementing the existing total of fine art museums which are much needed in order to improve the community's level of appreciation in the art. Collections of art-work and the social history of the nation, which the future younger generations can inherit, are preserved in this Museum. The invaluable collections are intrinsically a historical inheritance which becomes sources of information and media of education. These are all most important for the development and transformation of culture and civilization from one generation to the following.

For all these reasons, I appreciate deeply the effort shown by Mr. I Nyoman Rudana which has successfully established this magnificent museum. This has proven his dedications as an artist, and others can exhibit their work of art here. This museum is also intended for artists and people of interest in this area to gather. Here they can exchange experience and ideas on their respective fields of interest.

I would like to once again congratulate Mr. I Nyoman Rudana and wish the Museum achieve its goal. I also expect the Museum to always cater the needs of students and members of the community at large in their strive for improvement in artistic appreciation.

This kind of museum is certain to render its contribution to the development of the art in Indonesia in general, and in Bali in particular.

Jakarta, 26 December 1995
Minister of Education and Culture
of Republic of Indonesia
