Bali is the hope for a global solution for global warming

Bali will host the 13th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its subsidiary the third Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. Bali will be venue from 3-14 December 2007 for over 180 countries along with observers from intergovernmental and non governmental organisation and of course the media.

Bali will begin a series of discussion concerning on the future of the fight against the climate change. It is expected that Bali conference will provide us a blue print about how to proceed to reaching the after  the Kyoto Protocol is expired in 2012 including the time frame for the comprehensive negotiations process which scheduled to be finalized no later than 2009.

The Conference will build upon the political momentum generated by the UN General Assembly thematic debate on "Climate change as a global challenge". The Bali conference will be built on a genuine partnership between developed and developing countries to combat climate change without holding development. Bali is the hope for a global solution.

The global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation which caused by the increase of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere.

Greenhouse gases are components of the atmosphere that contribute to the greenhouse effect. Some greenhouse gases occur naturally in the atmosphere, while others result from human activities such as burning of fossil fuel such as coal. Greenhouse gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, Perfluorocarbons, Hydrofluorocarbons, Sulphur hexafluoride and ozone.

The greenhouse gases in the atmospheres are needed to catch the solar radiation to warm the earth. However the greenhouse gases in the atmospheres is increased because of human activities that increase the greenhouse gas emission such over excesses of fossil fuel for transportation, industry and electricity, deforestation and also emission from fire in the forest.

According to a Switzerland insurance company, about 90 percent of disaster occurred in Asia were caused by climate. Such extreme heat, heat wave and heavy rain and also cyclone, tropical storms will occur intensively and frequently.

Bali itself has to face the global warming challenge. Through a satellite image to Bali, it is uncovered that about third quarter of Bali's land is critically of green area. From 9 regencies in Bali, six of them is critical zone. The standard ideal for green area is about 50-60 percent and Bali has only 24-27 percent of green area. As in Denpasar, Bali's capital city has about 12,116.45 hectares of land but it green area only 28.52 hectares. If the global warming cannot be controlled, thus in 2030 with increase of sea water level about 6 meters the Sanur and Kuta area will be drown (Bali Post—16 August 2007)

Bali is needed to promote a sustainable development as the best solution for all concerned. Thus cease to develop the tourism industry, off-shore residential development especially if the development is required to open the mangrove area as the land buffer from the sea.

As the host of the conference, Bali should actively promote its own traditional value as Nyepi Day as one time to cease to spurt emission into the air to the world.
