Sanur Beach to host water sports festival

DENPASAR (indo.com): Bali's famous Sanur Beach will be teeming with water sports activities when a traditional boat competition, a windsurfing contest and the newly introduced kite surf festival are held. The water sport extravaganza is expected to attract international participants and will be held from August 6 to 10, 2002.

The festival committee's chairman Oka Sulaksana said that the kite surf festival is the first to be held in Asia, and is expected to involve participants from Australia, Japan, Singapore, Germany, USA, and Italy.

The traditional boat competition is also expected to attract foreign visitors. "Anyone interested in participating in the competition will be welcome," he said. Each traditional boat has two people.

The event will also be used as the final stage of selecting Bali's athletes to take part in both the upcoming 2002 Asian Games in South Korea, and the International Windsurfing Competition in Greece.
