PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bali Safe Haven: indo.com's new campaign
to communicate
the situation in Bali and Indonesia to the international market
Jakarta - October 17, 2001. With the current global situation,
and especially the much talked about demonstrations and "sweepings"
of foreigners in Indonesia, many people are wondering: "Is Bali safe"?
To answer that question, www.indo.com invites all those involved in Indonesian
tourism to work together in a campaign to communicate the real situation
of Bali and Indonesia to the world.
As Indonesia's leading Internet travel portal, we have received dozens
of emails asking about the security situation in Indonesia. Whilst we
can continue to answer these questions directly, we all need to be more
proactive in spreading the word that Bali is a safe haven for visitors.
This is where the Bali Safe Haven Campaign comes in. We have included
a Bali Safe Haven Campaign button on our homepage: http://www.indo.com
- please check it out. By clicking the button the reader gets the latest
news about safety in Bali. The current edition has interviews with the
Governor of Bali as well as the Head of Police Department and Head of
Armed Forces of the Province of Bali, as well as a statement from President
Megawati asking all Indonesians to cordially welcome guests of our country.
As Eka Ginting, CEO of indo.com explains, "We feel that the current
situation requires urgent action in order to maintain the image of Bali
and Indonesia the eyes of the global travel community. We are therefore
taking the first step by launching the Bali Safe Haven Campaign. This
is a simple campaign with single purpose: to continuously communicate
the real situation in Bali and Indonesia to the world in order that travelers
and tourism industry professionals can get a more genuine picture of the
real situation here. The first issue contains interviews with several
key Balinese and Indonesian government figures. Next we have interviews
with spokespersons of several foreign Embassies in Bali and Jakarta to
give their first hand accounts of safety in Bali".
The campaign is expected to play a lead role among a number of public
relations efforts from the private sector to maintain the images of Bali
and Indonesia as safe and enjoyable tourism destinations. With indo.com's
readership of 18 million hits per month, Bali Safe Haven can reach a wide
global audience; however, indo.com encourages all industry players and
those who care about Bali and Indonesia to participate simply by attaching
the following tag to your website:
<a href="http://www.indo.com/indonesia/news108.html" target="_blank"><img
src="http://www.indo.com/banner/balisafehaven.gif" alt="Bali
Safe Haven" border="0"></a>
By working together we can restore the damage that is currently occurring
to the image of Bali and Indonesia.
